The Basics

Q: What is a ringtone?
A: Ringtones are digital files that you use to customize the sound a phone makes when it receives a call.

Q: What is the difference between Polyphonic and Truetone ringtones?
A: Polyphonic ringtones play an instrumental version of a song through a synthesizer chip on your cellphone. The chip generates various instrument sounds to mimic the instruments in the song.
Truetone ringtones are made from master music recordings. Truetones are clips or samples of actual recordings of songs which are played as an alert or ringtone on your cellphone.

Q: Is my carrier one that you support?
A: We currently support AT&T Wireless Services, Cingular, Sprint, and T-Mobile USA. If you're a Verizon customer, ringtones are only available through the GET IT NOW feature on your cellphone.

Q: Are these available in other countries?
A: Sesame Street mobile content is available in Australia, and the United States. If you would like to be notified when content is available in your country or if you would like to distribute Sesame Street mobile content, please contact: mobile@sesameworkshop.org.

Cellphone Model Details

Q: How do I know what cellphone model I have?
A: If you're not sure what type of cellphone you have, look for the manufacturer and model number under the battery or check your User Manual or your carrier's website for more details.

Q: How do I know if my cellphone model is supported?
A: Check if your cellphone model is supported by filling in carrier, manufacturer, and model details on the "Cellphone Wizard" page. If your cellphone isn't listed, keep checking back or click here to receive a message when we support your cellphone. We are adding new ones all the time!

Q: Is my cellphone compatible with ringtones and wallpapers?
A: To download ringtones and wallpapers, your cellphone must be able to receive text messages and mobile internet on your cellphone. This may be offered in a cellphone subscription plan (MEdia Net, T-Zone, M-mode, Vision, etc.). Some T-Mobile users may have internet access that is limited to T-Zone only. This limited access is not sufficient for downloading ringtones and wallpapers from this site. If you are unsure of your cellphone's capabilities, don't worry -- you will only be billed for successful ringtone and wallpaper downloads. Check your cellphone's capability in your User Manual or visit your cellphone carrier's website for more details.

Q: Is my cellphone compatible with Truetone or Polyphonic ringtones?
A: Not all cellphones are able to receive all types of ringtones. Although voice and sound ringtones are downloaded the same way as Polyphonic ringtones, they require special features in your cellphone to play them. Not all cellphones have the same features. Check your phone's capability in your User Manual or visit your carrier's website for more details.

Downloading

Q: Why do I need to be able to receive text messages and mobile internet on my cellphone?
A: You will receive a link to your mobile content through a text message. Please make sure this is enabled in your mobile carrier service plan. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD OUR MOBILE CONTENT WITHOUT THIS CAPABILITY. Don't worry if you are unsure, you will only be charged if the download is successful.

Q: Do I need a cable to download my ringtones and wallpapers?
A: No, all downloads are done over-the-air without the need for any additional accessories.

Q: Can I preview a ringtone or wallpaper before downloading it to my cellphone?
A: Yes. Select the "Preview" option next to each listed content item. An audio clip will stream to your desktop for ringtones. If you've selected your cellphone model, the previews will be customized for your cellphone. Please note that ringtone lengths vary by cellphone.

Using Ringtones and Wallpapers

Q: How do I begin to use my new ringtone or wallpaper?
A: Every cellphone model is unique. If you are having trouble accessing your new downloads, you should refer to your cellphone's User Manual or visit your carrier's website.

Q: Can I transfer existing ringtones or wallpapers from my current cellphone to another cellphone?
A: Unfortunately downloaded selections cannot be transferred from one cellphone to another.

Q: Can I assign a specific ringtone or wallpaper to phone numbers stored in my phonebook?
A: You can assign ringtones and wallpapers to callers in your phonebook on some cellphones. Check your User Manual for more information.

Q: How many ringtones or wallpaper can my cellphone store?
A: Storage varies based on your specific cellphone model. Find out your cellphone's storage capacity by referencing the User Manual.
If your phone's storage capacity is full and you begin to download another item, you will be asked if you want to delete one of the previously downloaded items stored in your phone. Once you delete a ringtone or wallpaper, it will be permanently removed from your phone and you'll need to re-purchase and re-download it if you want to use it again. Should you choose not to complete the new download, you will not be charged for it.

Q: How do I delete content from my cellphone?
A: Every model of cellphone is unique. You should refer to your User Manual for details on deleting ringtones or wallpapers from your cellphone.

Q: Can I send my cool new ringtone or wallpaper to all of my friends once I've downloaded it?
A: No. A ringtone or wallpaper can only be downloaded to a single cellphone model. You can send your friends an email message to let them know about all the great Sesame Street Mobile ringtones and wallpapers. You are expressly prohibited from transmitting, distributing, reproducing and modifying any ringtone or wallpaper.

Billing

Q: How do I pay for my new ringtone or wallpaper?
A: The charges are added directly to your regular cellphone bill from your carrier.
NOTE: Pre-paid plans ARE NOT supported at this time. Please check back soon.

Q: Will I be charged for downloads that are not completed?
A: No, you will only be billed for ringtones and wallpapers that you have successfully downloaded to your cellphone.

Q: Can I get a refund if I do not like my ringtone?
A: Sorry, we only offer refunds due to technical issues that we cannot resolve.

Troubleshooting

Q: What if I can't preview the ringtones?
A: You will need a sound card and a Flash-enabled browser to preview the ringtones. If you need to download Flash, you can download it here.
